Abstract

The students of class XII Science-6 of SMAN 1 Driyorejo in the 2018/2019 academic year in the odd semester have learning English difficulty in writing narrative essay. It can be reflected from the result of the daily test includes 2 aspects, namely grammar and main ideas in paragraph. The average score for grammar aspect is 68.8 and the learning completeness in classical reaches 50%. While the average score of the main idea aspect in paragraph is 70.1 and classical learning completeness reaches 47.3%. The minimum completeness criterium (KKM) has been determined at 80. The author applies the inquiry-based learning method assisted by adventure-themed songs to improve student learning achievement. The result, in the first cycle, the average score of grammar aspect is 68.8 and learning completeness reaches 72%. In the main idea aspects in the paragraph, the average value is 70.1. While students who have achieved mastery learning are 28 students or 77.8%. In the second cycle, the average score of student learning achievement on grammar aspect is 81.7 and learning completeness reaches 91.7%. In aspect of the main idea in the paragraph obtains an average value of 91.9. While students who have achieved mastery learning are 34 students or 94.4%. In conclusion, the application of inquiry-based learning method can improve students' abilities.
