Abstract
This article is motivated by educational disparities, especially in the distribution of education in the border areas of Indonesia. This results in a tendency that border areas are not yet able to manage their education independently. So that many people in border areas take the initiative to manage and establish community-based formal institutions. The purpose of this research is to examine more deeply about the implementation of community-based education management at SMP KSM Sonit Masoni Island, the Border of Central Sulawesi. The study used a descriptive qualitative method with data collection by observation, interviews and documentation. The results of this study indicate that the implementation of community-based education management at SMP KSM Sonit Masoni Island, the Border of Central Sulawesi, has a major impact on the development of schools in border areas. Several stages in implementing community-based education are the planning, organizing, implementing and monitoring stages. The program that has been implemented includes the teaching and learning process of scouting activities and the development of seaweed cultivation. The implementation of school activities is still not running optimally due to several obstacles including, Masoni Island is included in underdeveloped areas, geographic factors that are far away from the crowd, insufficient number of teachers, students, minimal budget, minimal facilities and infrastructure and lack of expertise in managing schools.
