Abstract
This study aims to determine the differences in online learning optimism among male and female students at Sebelas Maret University. The research method used is quantitative with a questionnaire to collect the respondent’s identity and an optimism psychology scale. That scale is compiled based on Seligman's theory with three aspects: permanence, pervasiveness, and personalization. The scale has been tested and obtained valid results with a reliability coefficient of 0.910. The sampling technique used was simple random sampling with 96 respondents (48 male students and 48 female students). The data analysis technique used an independent sample t-test with IBM SPSS Statistics 20 software. The results showed that the differences in online learning optimism between male and female students have a significance value of p = 0.032 (p < 0.05). Overall, the average optimism score for women was higher than that of men (33,500 > 30.7917). Specifically, in each aspect, the average score for women was higher than that of men (permanence: 9.458333 > 8.229167; pervasiveness: 15.70833 > 14.8125; personalization: 8.458333 > 7.75). This research is expected to be a reference for related parties to evaluate online learning activities that have been implemented to be more optimal.
